Founded in 2017 by Dr. Kate Spencer and Dr. James Spencer, Ajax Physical Therapy provides a personalized approach to recovery and pain management. As Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialists (OCS) and Northeastern University alumni, Kate and James bring nearly two decades of high-level expertise directly to your door.
Before establishing their practice in Aspen, they spent a decade treating a diverse range of clients in cities across the U.S.—from elite professional athletes to medically complex patients. In the winter of 2026, Ajax Physical Therapy was hired to provide daily care to the athletes of Team USA during their World Cup competition in Aspen. Today, James and Kate continue to lead their profession through national leadership roles within the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

My career in physical therapy began in Maine at a clinic specializing in post-professional education and manual therapy, where I had the opportunity to work with members of the U.S. Ski Team. After a decade spent as a traveling physical therapist across the U.S., I founded Ajax Physical Therapy to bring that same elite level of care directly to my neighbors in Aspen.
I believe that effective recovery requires a marriage of hands-on manual therapy and injury-specific exercise. Whether I’m utilizing dry needling or advanced hands-on techniques, my goal is to make your recovery seamless and effective so it fits into your busy mountain lifestyle.
I am deeply committed to community and professional service. Beyond my local practice, I hold several leadership roles within the APTA and recently served as the lead author for the national curriculum on ski injury prevention and treatment.
Aspen is my home, and the outdoors is my playground. Whether I’m cross-country skiing, up-hilling, or chasing my family through the woods, I know how important it is to move without pain. I look forward to helping you get back to doing what you love.

At Ajax Physical Therapy, my goal is to help you perform at the highest level while avoiding unnecessary surgeries or injections. I utilize a combination of hands-on manual therapy and innovative treatments like Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training and dry needling to get you back to the activities you love faster.
I am deeply invested in the future of our field and the care of its patients. I currently serve as Vice President of APTA Orthopedics. In this role I work internationally in advancing musculoskeletal care, and the care I provide in Aspen is informed by the latest research and innovations.
When I’m not in the clinic, you’ll find me skiing, hiking, or camping with my family. As a competitive runner and swimmer, I know what it’s like to chase a goal, and I look forward to helping you reach yours.
